Chiropractic Treatments: Your Body
Dr. Caplan uses a variety of techniques that she has learned over the course of her career which began in 1987. Combining the precise manual adjusting techniques of Sacro Occipital Technique and Applied Kinesiology she is able to gently and efficiently restore proper movement to the joints and facilitate healing in the body.
Dr. Caplan tends to use techniques known as “light force.” This means the adjustment is made with more speed than force and is less stressful to the body. While feeling light initially most patients later experience the power and subtlety of this type of adjusting. Occasionally the heavier, higher force adjustment is used, but not if the patient prefers otherwise.
When pain appears insidiously, meaning, to the sufferer there appears to be no logical reason for the pain, it's often due to years of improper body mechanics. Over time, the toll taken on the body by improper position when sitting, driving, working, walking, suddenly announces itself and demands attention. The typical complaint “I just bent over to pick up a pencil and I couldn't get back up!” is never really from an immediate cause. Rather, years of lack of proper alignment, muscle balance, and body mechanics combined with the normal degenerative changes that come with age suddenly tip the scales and the abnormal situation demands correction.
Dr. Caplan assesses muscle balance and will perform therapeutic muscle procedures when necessary. Often this includes the patient working at home to restore proper muscle balance and function as well. Home exercises may be given. Changes in position while doing computer work, driving, exercise, etc., may be suggested.
When there is cause for further assessment to be made the patient may be sent for x-rays of the spine or joints, or referred out to the appropriate health practitioner.
What is an adjustment?
A skilled mode of treatment, performed by a chiropractor, directed at a specific joint and/or soft tissue in a specific manner with the purpose of restoring normal joint function. This can be applied by hand or adjusting instrument.
